Hi peeps,

Am in the process of expanding of my small little business here in Australia
Just wondering if anyone can give their comments:

Business consists of:
(a) Rental of camera gear
(b) Selling of camera gear (old/used)

I am based in perth.
Just wondering if there is a market for it here or Australia?

thanks!

Hi,

I live in Perth and most of the bigger camera stores offer to rent gear - but there are very few retailing second hand stuff. Depends on what you are thinking of selling.

Late model stuff - or really old collectable stuff.

Canon stuff.

thanks for the reply...

looking at bringing in new stuff.... or 2nd gear (which are recent models)
cause the prices here seem kinda high as compared to other countries (particularly Asian markets)

Hey there, and welcome to ST...

In Melbourne there are pretty much just a handful of shops selling 2nd hand gear - the range is not very large and it's usually just a display window thing. I think most people would go to ebay for 2nd hand gear - the shops pay too little and sell them for too much. I don't blame them - they need to make a profit somehow.

Rental - again, I think it might be viable if you target certain segments - I would imagine that students would be using them alot. Also maybe some weekend warriors like myself, who rent stuff once in a blue moon for the occasional wedding etc..

Are you thinking of a web based service, bricks and morter or both?

I certainly would come and have a look - always keen to buy second hand.

Cheers,

Chris

Apart from the 50 1.4 I would also be interested in a second hand 135 2.0 L Canon.

Cheers,

Chris.

first you need a domain name http://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/default.asp then you need to get a host maybe www.bluehost.com

also

i think to give you more credit to the offers that could be making, why do not post the prices here. it will be a great advertising for you.
