The Beast
#1

Sorry I can't do a picture. 'The Beast' unveiled very recently is a six bodied guitar/s
I can't remember exactly what, but two bass, a five string and three 6 string, or maybe a 12 string thrown in somewhere.
It was about 1.2 metres high, and was shown on a BBC morning program today.
I think you would need the arms of an orang-utan to play it, but the guy did his best.
Apparently it was an idea of a Spinal Tap member and was then made up by this guy (who was demonstrating it) far a window display. He sold 5 in the first 20 minutes £750.00 each. I guess he had to make them first.
A great conversation piece, but not very practical . Rolleyes

Yes, it's nuts, isn't it! I think there've been only 20 shipped to the UK..which is odd, given that they are dirt-cheap at around £750(can't believe that price).
Am assuming that there's a way one can mix/blend the outputs.
Or maybe: the guitar is £750...but the case will be ten grand?!
I wonder if Health and Safety would cancel your gigs though: it must grind those vertebrae together nicely...

I thought if you got a saw to it, and made either two trebles or three doubles and sold for a profit. Big Grin

Seriously, why not? Good idea,...actually, you could take yer Stanley TO the shop, "log it" in situ, and the transport problem is ameliorated.

Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick had a 5-neck guitar back in the '80s.
I used to own a 6 & 12 string doubleneck like Jimmy Page's.
It was right at the tolerance point for weight and size, so I can't imagine adding more unless one were a mandolin or something equally tiny.

My very first guitar was beautiful until I sanded it down and varnished it.
The varnish never dried. "Stick to it" my Dad said. Rolleyes

Very good, nt!
I've got a 7-neck guitar..mind you, all the necks have their own individual bodies attached to them!
Keith, I never knew that(about the Cheap Trick guitarist either); did that double-necker you had have tuning problems btw? I'd heard they were prone to "bending about" a bit.
Steve Vai had(has?) a strange triple-necker, I think, but manages pretty well on it, as he would; he also had a heart-shaped one with 2 necks on side, and a third(I think) on the other.
There are a few guitarists and bassists who are presently going through a fad: they're pretending they're the only one with the idea, yet all sound very similar; exceptionally "clever" though, as they set up their double-bodied guitars with a low action and tune them to different open tunings. They then do the "tapping" thing with one hand on each fretboard...very flash, but the holes start to show as they find it difficult to modulate key.
To be honest, I'm still finding the one-neck, one body instrument to be more than enough.
Are either of you guys doing anything musical at present, by the way? ( I seem to remember that Keith does, or am I mistaken?)

These guys don't play weird instruments, like 3 necked guitars and electronic drums.
.
They were playing in the park for fun (some kind of Chinese holiday) and lots of people around them.
We clapped at the end of a long number (although I could not hear them, Maybe chopsticks Rolleyes ) and others started to join in with the applause. The band seemed to appreciate this.

The first is the one I was watching on TV.
What is the point of the second (12 neck strat) they are all gonna sound the same.

Yep Jules, that's the one that kicked the thread off: can't believe the price really. Wondering if the 12-necker was used as a promo piece or even a bit of commissioned artwork/"sculpture".

haha not sure what you'd do with 12 necks...
maybe have different tunings on some, different pickups, connected to different amps? Big Grin

Zig--my doubleneck stayed in tune fairly well--although with 18 strings it took awhile to get it there.
I would sometimes hit an open note or harmonic and then push one neck back while pulling the other forward for a nice wavering vibrato.
Balancing the guitar high overhead with just a headstock in my hand was a trick that would cause guitar owners in the audience to freak out.

I'm still in the biz (going-on 28 years)--I run sound and shoot pictures for band's website.
