The Canon 100mm 2.8 is as good as they come, with or without IS, depending on wallet. Will also second as a longer portrait lens. Very pleased with mine.

In general probably you could take Deans' advice the Canon 100mm but when you're in a budget you could get the Tamron 90mm. Heard a lot of good reviews of it

Hi all I just bought a Sigma 105 and so far I think it's great. I read the reviews on the Canon macro 100 and also on the Sigma 70,105 & 150. the Sigma had way better reviews than the Canon plus the Sigma has a 7 yr warranty which should tell you something.

I have the Tamron 90mm macro lens - it is superb and every bit as good as Canon make. Mine gets used for landscapes as much as for close-up work.
