Our resident camera salesman can probably comment more, but Engadget have published their holiday gift guide for digital cameras. They've grouped the recommendations based on price range, from thrifty, under 100, to DSLRs.

They recommended the Canon 60D over the Nikon D7000 though, based on price. Let the flame wars begin!!

It's an interesting list; there are a few there that I wouldn't run into a fire (sale) for, and others where I would choose a different model, but it's not polite to name names.

And besides, the point is that these are chosen for someone else - so I wouldn't have to use that one that I'd be likely to chuck out a window.
