The steam engine is a not very detailed model of Stephenson's Rocket.
It is driven by wheels and levers and a crank handle, which only makes the wheels and piston arms move. A build it yourself novelty entirely from wood and glue.
The rest is just my (wild) imagination.

Very spooky & great use of MS Paint

Just Photoshop CS brush tool for the rails, a skeleton snagged from the net somewhere, and a railway model.
I selected all the original B/G and blacked it out. The smoke is cotton wool.
