I sometimes play around in Corels Art Program with my images.
Colour Popping means taking an image and copying it as a greyscale on top of the coloured one. Then erasing through the greyscale layer to show the coloured bits beneath.
This is the main image
And colour Popped like these ..........>

And this one...
Just for a bit of fun ..... Nothing serious!
This is very interesting! Thank you for sharing with us! :0)

Interesting concept. Thanks.

The second one works, for me. The first doesn't
Here is another shot of a small boat in our local creek at low tide
Like that one, Johnytrout !! Lots of work to get that overlay erased so neatly.
What software are you using to create the mask, Johny?
The software is Corel's "Paint Shop Pro"
It's a lot cheaper than Photo Shop but does more or less the same stuff.
There are no masks needed,
Just copy the image, Greyscale it, then paste the greyscale image back on top of the coloured one as a new layer.
Then use the eraser to bring the colour through where you need to.
Then flatten the layers back to a single one.
Or the technical way .....
Open an image, go to the Hue and Saturation and take the Saturation down as far as it will go.
Then use the programs brush to paint back the coloured parts.

I used to have Paintshop pro when I used a Windows PC but had to change over to PS when I bought a Mac. The only downside of having a Mac. However, you must have a steady hand, unless Paintshop pro has edge aware brushes and erasers.

I'm not a big fan of this kind of post processing and I dislike the results most often than I actually like them.

But your boat turned out quite nice Smile
Thank you Korry.
I love playing around with photo images.
But as I said, this was just for fun.
Let us try not to stray too far from the most important issue ...... Photography!

Oooh, we could end up with a discussion on “what is photography” Some of us are too old to start that one running. lol.

You can't be too old for 'what is photography' discussion. Besides, since the technology is moving fast forward there is always something new to add to that one, so you can't even get bored Big Grin

(kidding, hope everyone understand that even without me saying it out loud but had to say it just to avoid misunderstandings as this is quite a serious topic for somes)

@johnytrout - you're doing a great job and can't wait to see some more Wink

Thank you! Is that a part of a branch in the upper left hand corner? Love the color that pops out!
A nice image, spoilt by the twig in the top left hand corner. Clone or crop. Rear of the flower a bit too soft for me.
Ahh, The twig!
That is part of an Aquilegia.
Now that I've found the level of criticism, I know where I stand.TongueWink
If cloning out and manipulating is the forte, then I will endeavour to post better images
johnytrout - you are definitely off to a great start!

No that’s not the forte. Seeing the twig and avoiding it is the aim. Cloning and cropping is the long stop when you get back to your PC and say "****** I didn’t see that!"
