Just curious to know what lenses other street photographers use. I vacillate between two prime lenses (28mm and 50mm) and my 28-70mm telephoto.
Opinions requested.

I like my EF 50 mm f1.8 or my Tamron 90mm on my Canon cameras.

Thank you John M, I think one can't go wrong with a fast 50mm lens; and the 90mm sounds like a good choice too.

I use my Sigma 50mm 1.4 Its a brilliant lens :-) I am just off to pick up my new Sigma 70-200mm 2.8.......So i'm gonna try that for a different prospective, though not too sure if I'll use it regularly for street work :-)

Thank you Iffy. Like several photographers I've talked to, & many I've read about, they use a Prime 50mm or perhaps a 35mm. Also, I've been told that one must get proficient with a prime lens so as to be comfortable with a telephoto.
However, I'm going to continue using my 28mm-70mm as I think it is a good alternative to a prime for street stuff.
I would think that a 70-200mm might be a bit bulky and cumbersome. No? I'll be interested to hear from you how it works out.

The smaller the camera the better. I often use a small point and shoot when I'm on the street.

Yes, I think "small" is a great way to shoot; however, most P&S cameras do not have an optical view finder which I think is quite convenient for some shots.
What P&S do you use?
I'd would use zoom lens and if can be one prime lens attach to one camera for a quick snap when needed. 18-35mm for zoom and 50mm 1.4 for prime would be great for me

The 18-35 idea is very interesting. I like it. Of course, then, one must never forget to "Get Closer" to the subject. And, often what gets "caught" in the background is just as interesting as the subject.

I would prefer to use Canon EF 50mm f/1.8.
In my humble opinion, the best lens is the one that you are comfortable with.
My self i only use 2 for street and thay are a 35mm & 50mm prime if you want to get closer step in further away step out.

I have an old Olympus SP350 (8 megapixels) that I picked up under $30 on E-Bay. It has an optical finder which is why I bought it. I completely agree about the optical finder. I found my tablet camera very useful for street photos because you can look like you are reading when you shoot.

Personally, I use a Nikon 18-200mm and carry a Nikon 50mm for back-up.
