Hi, I'm a new user to this and to my SP-810UZ, what sort of results are others getting from this camera. I'm new to photography, but I would like to get the best out of what I've got .

Hello mucker,
Welcome to the forum!
i have to be honest, I'm not familiar with the camera you mentioned; I shoot on a Canon. I'm looking forward to seeing your work.

Regards

Hi Mucker, and welcome! As a fellow "Yorkie" I would offer the following:

I'm surprised that you have to be close, The Olympus SP -810Z has a zoom of 36X, (at least according to all the 'blurbs i've read. I have no experience of your camera, (I use a Panasnic FZ18 myself), but as that has only 18X zoom and I can photgraph objects at least 1/2 mile away it would APPEAR that your settings are suspect. I hope that this is of value?

Cheers for that, I suppose I didn't expect to have to use the zoom for about eight foot away. But it looks like I am going to have to go through the settings again, Im sure its a great camera, when I get things right.
Cheers mate

At the time that came out, it had the longest zoom amongst bridge cameras at 36x optical.

You do know that you can zoom in using the ring that's around the shutter release?
Hello and welcome! You will find a friendly crowd here on ShutterTalk! Looking forward to hearing more from you here in the forums!

Hello Richard, I have an Olympus camera, not a SP-810OUZ though, it comes out very well in my favourite review site: http://www.photographyblog.com/reviews/o...uz_review/
You should be able to get some shots from your camera.
Cheers,
John
