The wifey and I went to Hicks lake in Harrison for a day trip Saturday. We took the B.B.Q. and the dog. She had a blast in the water all day. The weather was beautiful. Here are a couple photos to get started.
I'm not usually a fan of portrait style photos but it seems to work for this image better. Any thoughts?

So classical. You did the scene justice. I love it.

Definitely portrait, great work mate Smile

Great shots, Colin! I can't make up my mind really - if you want to put more importance to the mountain view, landscape is ok, in portrait the bridge is more visible. I think there is no need to discard one of them, they are both beautiful.
I couldn't say which one I like the most. Both are great! Smile
Thanks guys and gal. I kind of like the image with the bridge being a little closer. Though, I wish I had of chosen another shot of the same with a better exposure to the mountains.
It was one of those shots you see when driving along and was just there for a second. I went back twice to shoot this at 2 different times of the day for the lighting change.
For me Portrait definately works best, naybe try this shot with either early morning light or a strong sunset?

Thanks but it might be a long time before I get back there.
Ok. Here is one of those types of photos I believe everyone tries at one time or another. Whatcha think?

mmm a little too dark.. maybe brighten it up and add a filter to it to get that morning fog look ?
I like your picture. Have you considered a B&W treatment? Smile
Hey great shots, Peto. I like the portrait version of the mountain scene - it isolates more of the more "important" subjects.

The trees are very nice too! I'd like to see richer colours though, especially more green in the moss at the bottom of the trees, and more brown in the tree trunks.
Ok people. Thanks for the replies. The trees were lightened up as it is but I can always try some more editing. With the sun behind them the shaded side is pretty dark. I edited to what I thought it looked like in person. I'll giv'er another try. Big Grin
Mate try shooting it on a cloudy day - should get a lot more even light, then you can bring out warmth and colours with PS. I'll see if I can get some shots over here tonight to show what I mean.

Cheers,

Brad
Here are a couple shots I took from the Albion ferry that crosses the Fraser River from Fort Langley to Maple Ridge.

The first one is the Captain in the Command Bridge.

These are the moorings at the ferry entrance.

Here is my attempt at a black and white with a couple filters added for Irma. Big Grin

I like the B&W better. It shows more detail in the shadows.
I agree with Toad, and I like the 2 new pictures too Smile
Thanks Colin, you did a beautiful post-processing with your picture. It looks like a magic place. I like it very much. Smile
The two pictures from the ferry are great. I have never been on a ferry, but I have seen them in the Baltic sea, they are huge machines. The sky in the first one is gorgeous, and the white color in the Command Bridge is perfect. The detail in the moorings is also great. Smile
Thanks Toad, Wayne and Irma.I used a polarizer in these shots so the sky came out very blue. I wasn't too happy with the mooring photo. I thought it wasn't sharp enough and forgot to fix it when editing. The ferry isn't a very big one. It just carries maybe 30 cars at a time accross the river on a 5 minute ride.
