Thanks guys, I was trying out my new Pentax 18-55mm lens (Cost me AU$100 and it included a Tiffen haze filter), I bought my Pentax Ds with a Sigma 18-50mm lens because thats how they sell the kits in Australia, always wondered what the standard Pentax lens was like, I now know that they are pretty reasonable. I was also using a "new" Pentax 240Z flash that I bought for AU$20, works great I think.
