Full Version: Methods of getting children to pose together?

My current project is to get a single shot of my three children together that is good enough to enlarge and frame as a chrismas presents for their grandparents. My children are between 7 and 3 years old and dont have much patience for posing. I dont mind if I get a nice candid shot or a more posed shot but havent had much success at all so far. Most shots have one or all of them with an expression on their faces that says "I wish Dad would put the camera away".

I would love some suggestions of methods used to capture great group shots of children or see some examples...

Best shot so far (not happy with lighting though)

Rope. And lots of it... (sorry, couldn't resist) Big Grin

I have troubles with this too - looking forward to hearing some good tips...
Tranquilisers or alcohol (for you)

Promises of Candy. (for them)
Make an idiot of yourself to get them laughing...although your kids are a bit older and might just roll your eyes at you hee hee. Squeeze them into a chair to get them cuddling each other maybe?
Otherwise, do single portraits and put them together in a frame?
LOL Jules :-)

Well i usually dont ask them to do this and that, but if they have a hard time facing the camera i ask them questions to keep their attention. But your kids is older, so a future promise of something they like might not be such a bad idea.

Best of luck.
