Does anybody know how you get GMail invites.... as in invites to invite other people to get a gmail account??

I have some friends that want one and they asked seeing as I've got a gmail account if I had any invites.

Umm it seems that GMail has stoped giving out any new invites, and taken away any un given out invites that were accumulated, maybe they are getting ready to open?

Woo... oh well... should be free anyway right?
