The grass, flattened by the snow makes a flat smooth surface covering the puddles and pools of water below. Thousands of wolf spiders prowl the surface from nests underneath.

Shudder. What an interesting story and pair of images.

I find them a bit oversharpened though. A lot of jangly highlights - particularly on #1.

I agree Toad. I may re-work this one.

I replaced the first photo with an unsharpened version.

Much better - has the flow of the texture without the jangle.
