I was hoping to visit the Whale Festival at Nelson Bay today, as its raining cats & dogs decided to stay at home. This is the beginning of the 'watch for whales season' here as the whales make their way north. They can be spotted from this vantage point, Barry Park, at the southern end of Fingal Bay.

Every day there are at least 8 bus loads of passengers going to board the various boats to view either the dolphins (there are about 100 in the waters of the Bay) or going outside the heads to watch for whales. I hope to photograph them with my new telephoto lens which is arriving this week.
This is one of the smaller boats that cruise the bay for dolphins, if they cant find them, they use the slide and net for swimming and diving. American soldiers were stationed at Shoal Bay WW2, when they left all their equipment (armoured vehicles, boats) was dumped in Shoal Bay making it a good dive spot.
