Great shot, Keith!
agree with Toad...........nice shot Keith

NT...........like the DOF on your shot interesting......well done
I like what you did NT .

Good job Keith , i want to know more about the light box too , ( if you care to share ) .

Thanks, y'all!
I need to admit that the background was photoshopped-out, but once I get some smoother and cleaner background materials this won't be necessary.

After the success of the small lightbox I built, a bigger and better one is in the works.
The beauty of it is that anyone can build them with junk lying around the house.
My lighting is super-cheap, too.
3 fixtures with bulbs for around $12-$20 sound good?

I'll be doing a how-to article with pictures, so look for it in a few days.

Here's another photo I made in the lightbox: Star .380ACP
Keith, I'm looking forward to that article. I've done a bit of small-item photography, and found it frustrating and far too complicated. I'd love to see what you've done to get such great results so quickly.

Here are a couple more quick ones from the past couple of days, both examples of extensive depth of field.

The above image was taken in a parking lot in a small city waaaaaaay north of where I live, called "Newmarket". It's a commuter city, filled with people who drive for hours each day. For a downtown resident like myself, this is the far side of nowhere. I don't even have a driver's license (I never bothered to learn) so the vast parking lots of suburbia are completely alien. To complete the scene, in the background is a swath of dirt that's soon to be another subdivision, probably looking a lot like the one right behind it. It's not a pretty picture -- although I like how the sky mirrors the terrain -- but captures the vastness and (I think) the horror of the place. Taken with my lens set at its widest angle, 22mm-e, and f/22, while standing on the bumper of my brother's truck.

This is my usual stomping grounds -- I'm about three minutes (walking) from my work. It's another 'nothing' scene, and would be greatly improved by having a person somewhere in the alley, doing anything, and a better time of day. I took it as a scene with enough detail to deserve extensive DOF, and will work on getting a model some other time. (22mm-e, f/14.)
I like #1 Matt - you should put a drive-in screen in the front Big Grin
I like #2 , but i cant really tell you why. Big Grin . It has a tilt in it but it might just work in this shot.

Number 2 kind of works still Matt - I also like it.

Keith - nice job on the composition of your knife shot.
Difficult to get both eyes in focus... :/
