Newcastle City Council has erected steel frames with covers all round the city which can be extended to protect us from sun. Newcastle is an unusual city as there are no skyscrapers or buildings more than 10 stories, it has history going back to 1800 when it was used as a convict settlement to mine coal found there. The Council has a policy of keeping the city free of skyscrapers and there are a lot of smaller buildings with laneways in the city itself.
