Stunning macro Pete - I've never seen a bee like it...
Thanks everyone and especially thanks to Paul Lindquist for recommending this lens.

Here is one of our normal honey bee (these are actually the European bee) for comparison. Also taken this morning.

very well captured Pete that first shot is a cracker!! (aussie for good Big Grin )
The first one is the best macro I have seen you post - stunning.
Thanks everyone.

I am sure I can do better though, not that happy with the blown highlights on the white flowers! See if I can get in a little closer, I think I will get a Tamron 90mm but I am drawn also to the Sigma 70mm, looks very nice but I also here good things about the Pentax 100mm as well, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh.
Peted: First off, great shots!

As for the tamron, all i can say is that you cant get any better Macro lens for that kind of money.

I have used sigmas macro but not the 70mm.Wouldnt 70mm be a little short for bugs? The working distance of 90mm and upwards will probebly suit you better when your chasing bugs.

As for the blown highlights, Lastolite make mini reflectors, wich easily can be used for blocking/bounce the light, or just make your own of foamcore sheets.

Again great shots.

Thanks Paul,

The longer focal length also gives a little more DOF as well.

Cheers.
