She usually runs away when I approach with my camera, but I caught her daydreaming out the window here. Natural light plus a tungsten lamp. Taken with the 50mm 1.4 lens at f/1.8, 1/40s, ISO 400.

Lovely photo and perfect depth of field.
Thanks Toad.

This lens is amazing with respect to DOF. The background is the couch upon which she's laying, just a foot or so behind her. I haven't used it stopped down beyond f/2.8 yet; it's remarkably sharp there. Smile
That's a Canon lens?
Wow, awesome shot, Mitch! Thanks for sharing that with us. That might well win the digital photography challenge (appreciation)! Smile

I just love the expression in her eyes...
Yes, Canon. It's not "L" but there is no 50mm L currently in production.

There was a 50mm f/1.0 L but it costs a fortune, if you can find one.

Nah, I'm working on my entry for that one. Have an idea I've wanted to do for a while but I just need to set it up.

Thanks though!
What a cutie, I still love your shot with the two of them in the garden.
My attention goes straight to her left eye. Perfectly beautiful snapshot, Slej. I also like the breezy whisp of hair too...
Wonderful .... and I love the sepia effect which finishes it off perfectly Smile
What exactly is this 'Sepia' effect?
Sorta like black and white, but yellow-brown tone.

Sepia is the brownish tones rather than plain greyscale b/w. Is that what you're asking or did you mean to ask Slej what settings he used for his sepia tones?

I like sepia as it's often 'softer' than b/w. It's also good for making a picci have a sort of ageing appearance like a picci you might find in an old attic.

Honestly I don't remember which tone setting I used here. I've been playing with a bunch of B&W conversion and toning actions from another forum, and this was one that I modified somewhat.

I think that for this one I grabbed the LAB luminosity channel, converted to RGB, made curve adjustments, and then did a "color balance" adjustment moving midtones +10 to red and +5 to yellow. Pretty simple. The other actions I've got use quadtones and the channel mixer and are more complex.

Thanks for looking!
