Full Version: Hack your low end Canon camera for RAW support

This is too good to be true - apparently there's a special firmware that you can load (called "CHDK") which will enable additional features on your low end Canon camera, such as RAW support, live histograms, depth-of-field calculation, under and overexposure highlighting and more. It looks pretty foolproof too...

It's only limited to the A-series and S2/S3 models at the moment, so IXUS users are out of luck (sniff) and the process looks pretty foolproof and easily reversible.

That said, doing this will probably void your warranty, and in all likelyhood - may end up bricking your camera, so be warned. Big Grin
Have got it on my A630, and it works a treat.

Minimal risk of stuffing up the camera, as the original firmware loads, then this hacked version loads from your card. The in-camera firmware is never touched - the hacked version is loaded into volatile memory.

It's got lots of features, including RAW, live histogram and so on. Picasa, UFRaw and Raw Therapee support the raw format.

Pretty sure it also works on the S-series, up to and including the S3. You can get info here: http://scratchpad.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK

That's amazing! Any way this could be implemented for the G7? Big Grin
Very cool. It says it is not valid for the G7.
