Why didn't I clean my own sensor? Because I was worried I would screw it up so I brought it to the my local camera specialist. When I brough it in there it worked great, sub some dust particles. When they took their test shot for cleaning it worked great... so they say, but before cleaning he went to take another test shot and "had a shutter error". The camera doesn't function now and must be sent to Nikon for warranty work.

You know how you get that feeling when you walk in somewhere and the wispering starts..... and the dreaded "did you get my message this morning, there is a bit of a problem?" After getting back up from the floor and dusting yourself off the conversation begins.

They claim they haven' even started cleaning it yet and that it looks immaculate (thank you.. thank you...) and that it worked perfectly for them on a test shot. Somewhere after that its SCREWED. They figure Nikon will have it for 2-4 weeks and there shouldn't be any charges because nothing has been "tampered" with... it just seems to have a shutter error and won't work.

ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quick question though... if they have to take it apart to deal with the shutter, will they clean my sensor as a courtesy? Anyone????

The venting process has just ended.
I don't think I'd do business with that bunch again.

If Nikon's tech service is as good as Canon's, then yes they will clean it too. At least Canon did for me when I sent mine in for focus calibration. They replaced the hot shoe too, though I didn't know there was a problem, and I had it back in 10 days from the time I shipped it out. Smile
So sad to hear that jericho! It's so ironic -- that's the very reason you take it into the "specialist" for - you don't want to wreck the camera.

If Nikon does charge, will they be picking up the tab?
I hope Nikon is as good as canon.... fingers crossed.

Before leaving the store I brought the subject of "charge" up with them and indicated, when I brought the camera in... in it worked perfectly. After you tested it once it work perfectly... suddenly it doens't work.... AT ALL. I will deal with that when I get the camera back. If there is a charge, I advised them that as far as I was concerned, they were in possession of a working camera.

Jerry.
I don't know what to say you haven't heard, Jerry. That's a bitch. Come to Van - I'll buy you a beer.
Funny enough... I'll be in Vancover from tomorrow (sunday until next friday) for work. I just may take you up on that offer. The beer purchase isn't necessary, but it would be kind of nice to put a face to a name.

Jerry

Are you going to Victoria, BC? lol
Hey Jerry... so what ever happened? Have you got the camera back yet?
HA! They had to replace the entire shutter unit. After some coaxing (some prefer to call it hassling) I managed to get it back within 12 days. Seems to be working great now. However, I will be cleaning my own sensor from now on.
Ha ha, good idea! Did you have to fork out any $$$?
Nope. I had the camera shop pay the shipping costs. Seems to be working great now. *knock on wood*.
