I just downloaded the Outback Photo B&W profile for use in C1; it was geared to the 1Ds but works fine with my 10D and probably many other cameras.

Gives outstanding results when used as part of the RAW conversion process, as outlined in this article:

Cool
Where did you find the profiles Mitch? I must start looking into black and white converting a little more often.
There is a link buried in the article, or you can click HERE
Thanks bud. I thought I'd let you do all the work. Big Grin
Heh heh; no problem. It's easy when I'm still confined to a chair because of the knee ...

Using that profile without any other adjustment is such a big enhancement over the simple "desaturation" method ... it's more like getting a very nice blend with the channel mixer. (In C1, you can toggle the "grayscale preview" on and off to see the difference.)

And then of course you can enhance it further with the hue/sat sliders. Nothing left to do in PS but some sharpening and maybe a tone layer.

Cool
Oh crap! I just realized I need C1. Rolleyes
Oh no you don't!

Install the profile (right-click on it after you unzip, and select 'install.')

In PS, go to Image > Mode > Assign Profile. Select that profile. Voila!

Now here's the best part: you can still use hue/sat to change the relative contrast. It's a bit odd because you don't see the colors (the sliders will be in B&W) but it still works the same.
