There's a place called Minchinhampton Common a couple of miles from me, which is the home of various rare flowers, moths and butterflies.
There are carpets of cowslips at the moment and throughout the next few months no fewer than 13 species of rare orchid will make an apppearance on the common's limestone soil.
This is one of the more common ones: the early-purple orchid, which is about 9 inches high.

I've absolutely no idea why it's called an early-purple orchid: a complete mystery....Cool

I caught this little blighter at 200mm with the 70-200mm, wide open at f4:

It's a pretty flower, but wow, that background! That's just gorgeous. I'm going to have to sell a few more of those lenses. Big Grin
