Full Version: Having A Bad Day

Starting last night while shooting my band, my camera has started failing.

I'm getting a black LCD and EVF after a few shots, and those photos are black, too.
It comes and goes.

Maybe a loose connection to the sensor, if I have any good luck at all.

Still--even though I open up and fix all sorts of electronic gear there's no way I'm trying to fix it myself.
I've seen my camera opened-up on the web and it looks a bit too complicated for me.

Naturally, this had to happen right when I've started to become interested in taking new photos again after a long dry spell.
And I was going to buy a second flash today but now I need to save that money for repairs. And I've heard that my flash is being discontinued, and it's sold-out at B&H and Adorama--was going to spend $20 more to get it locally, and it'll probably be gone by the time I can afford it again.
Every sympathy my man; here's to a cheaper and quick solution.
That makes for a bad day.

In my modest experience, repairing digital cameras gets expensive fairly quickly. On the other hand, I can't think of any compact camera that's better than the F717, especially given your tendency toward infrared. Hopefully it'll be covered under the sensor recall program (again) ... and perhaps some of the sony cams specialists will come up with something.
Yeah.
I've been in a fog all day.

Started the ball rolling with Sony online.
We'll have to take the tech's word for it whether they gave me a bad sensor in the last recall, or did a bad job, or I'm just going to bleed cash for weeks. Hmmm, who wants to wager on how THAT will end up.

Not much I can do at this point.
Will be borrowing a Sony H1 in the meantime so I won't be totally cut-off from things, but no macros, no IR, no flash, no zoom ring, no filters.
No Fun!
I am sorry to hear about your trouble Keith. I thought that these cameras are pretty reliable. This is not a pleasant way to learn otherwise. I hope that all will go well for you. Pavel
