Full Version: Rain in the Plains

One of my favorite things to do at the end of summer is photograph hummingbirds. There’s a place in Mississippi about a 45-minute drive from my home called Strawberry Plains. They are home to thousands of hummingbirds during the month of September as they begin their southern migration. I went down there are couple of weeks ago to get some pictures of them. Just as I got there, it started to rain. Well, I wasn’t going to let that stop me. I grabbed my umbrella and found a little bit of shelter under the eave of the old mansion there that backs up to the hummingbird garden. The rain obviously didn’t stop the hummers either. It did stop me from getting a close as I would have liked, but also made for some interesting shots I think.

The overcast weather allowed you to obtain beautifully saturated images without the problems of harsh and contrastly light. Sometimes a bonus there, if you can manage to keep dry. All are really nice photos. Regards.....dennis
I absolutely agree about the light; rain brings out the best colours and makes the whole world look a little different. I particularly like the first image.

Lovely! Smile
1 and 4. Somehow again you have that special ability to convey not just what you see but how you see it...which I know in a sense many folks here have...it's just that I find your way of seeing "outward", liberating and celebratory...not tawdry, pseudo, self-obsessed or hackneyed. Beauty as the subject rather than the concept, I reckon maybe. Unsure if this makes sense. I Leica lot.

Thank you very much everyone. And Zig, you make perfect sense. I appreciate your insight..
