I am often faced with situation where I do not know what different commands or options within Photoshop do. When I use these options, I am sometimes not able to interpret what has transpired. Kelby's books seem to teach mostly how to do things, but I would like to actually understand the commands. Is there a book or a site or something like that? I would like to learn things function by function with all of the options and what they do - for example "curves" or "masks". Thanks guys. Pavel
If I recall correctly, the "PS Bible" books by Deke McClennan may be what you are looking for. As I remember, they were considered the ultimate reference for all of the functions - not a "how to" like Kelby's, more of an encyclopedia. Which is why a lot of people don't like them.Big Grin They are version-specific, I think.
Thank you Slejhamer. There wewre such books for much earlier versions. Not any more. There was no TOC available, so I decided against purchasing. Thanks Pavel
Correction Slejhamer - there is a bilbe for PS3 but no longer by the same Auhtor. TOC is available - I will order - thanks for the lead. Pavel
Right not sure if this will help or not but i stumbled across a list of 17 productive photoshop cheatsheets and reference cards to download for free. Basically these are sort of cheat sheets you can print out and use for quick referrance. I found them useful so worth a share.

Cool
Nice find iBlog! Big Grin
There are websites that post photoshop commands. When I was learning photoshop, I did a search on google and found a page with a lot of photoshop commands. I just kept using the commands and after a while I automatically learned them. Hope that helps Smile

It may do, myphotogenie, but the original post was 12 months ago. I think DP may have learned a few by now. Big Grin
Meanwhile welcome to shuttertalk
Thank you myphotogenie. I appreciate your help. NT, you give me too much credit. I learned the basics in photoshop and when I run out of ideas, I hide behind the skirts of NIK software. With NIK, I can pay attention to photography and not battle with devious and malicious Adobe engineers ( Big Grin ). Happy New Year to you both. Good to hear from you NT. I learned a lot from you,

Pavel
Well, there are thousands of 'photoshop tutorials' if you google for them.
Some good, some not so good, but if you find them yourself, it gives you a sense of achievement.
There are certainly many, many guides for Photoshop, but I think the one you may be looking for is Photoshop CS6 The Missing Manual. This is very complete and goes through the commands one by one. Or you may just google the things you want.
