Here's a great article about British animation house Aardman, who used 50 Canon 1D Mark III cameras to make a Pirates movie. The movie itself was made using a combination of CGI and over 1 million stills from the DSLRs for stop motion animation.

They go into why they chose the 1D Mark III and also talk about modifications they had to do to make the lenses more like cine versions.
