Picked up a Chunky Book! -
shuttertalk - Mar 14, 2005
It was Labour Day today (public holiday), so instead of working, my wife and I hit the shopping centre.
She got herself a new handbag (typical) and I scored a photography book, which was on sale!
It's Photography, by Bruce Warren, textbook sized and about 1.5 inches thick... and was a steal at only $20. First published in 93, so may be a bit out of date, but still good.
Covers all aspects of the photographic process including:
- Film
- Exposure and Meters
- Camera and Lens
- Developing Film
- Printing Photos
- Light and Subject
- Seeing Better Photographs
- History of Photography
Plus more advanced stuff:
- Special techniques
- Colour Materials and techniques
- Tone control techniques
- Lighting
- Presentation of Photographs
- Photography as a Business
I'm more interested in digital photography these days, but I think it's still good to learn about the theory of the traditional process, just to know where it came from and what some of the "effects" are all about.
It's so thick... I don't know where to start! From the front, I guess. Can't wait to read it though.
If you want any more info on any of the above subjects, let me know!

shopping centres open on a public holiday! haha!
When I was young, I only knew it was a public holiday because I didn't have to go to school and the shops were closed!
Have a good read and share with us what you learn
Many things in photography will never go out of date; digital cameras basically have just replaced film with an electronic sensor, and everything that comes with that
other things, should, remain the same... I think
