Since I own a handy little Canon G9 now, I can make movies, too.

Don't expect much, it's just birdies at the feeder. If you have a cat, show it to her/him and tell me if they liked it.

I don't have a cat, but I did watch a bit of the movie. I'm quite impressed, both with the video and the sound quality. How far was the camera from the feeder for the microphone?
What do you think of the G9? Does it live up to the reviews?

Looks very slick. It's a shame you cant download these to be played on the tv. I don't let my cat near the computer screen.

Don, I uploaded the video to a location where you can download it: http://www.guerito.de/photo_gallery/movie/birdies.wmv. It's a bit large (15.6MB).
In the first part of the movie, the camera was about 2m from the feeder, but zoomed in. There is a second part (don't know if you got that far), where I have the camera very close, about 80cm. The birds didn't mind, obviously... By the way this is also a method to get closeups of the birds. I recorded the movie in "High Quality" with a resolution of 1024x768 pixels. With some software you can extract stills from the video. Well it's not a 10 Megapixel photo, but for the web it is sufficient.
The sound was not so good in the original take, there was some wind and this rumbles badly with the builtin microphone. I had to clean this up a little...
About the G9: I'm more than pleased with this camera. It's true what the reviews say about the noise, though - when your wife has a 5D the G9 noise really hurts. Besides of that the camera is a little miracle of modern technology. I'm not even close to using all the possible functions, even after several weeks of using it. It has things like face detection, a builtin ND filter, image stabilizer, can shoot raw and/or jpeg, can take movies, takes the same batteries as my 350D (so I have three batteries for it now), can do everything auto or manual, and so on and on... The best thing though is that this camera is with me all the time, it fits in the pocket of my coat. Also, I can use the cheapo light tripod I have had for years without using it. It's a pleasure to go for a walk without my 20 kilo backpack...
Also, I got a print 60x80cm from this picture and it's very beautiful.
