Old and new (Architecture) - Irma - Jul 2, 2008

I am working in a picture that represent old and new constructions in Germany. I saw the oportunity with this building, so I place it in the foreground. It was dificult to get other composition as there were too many cars around. My other question is about perspective, I tried to correct it the best I could but I really don't know if I did it right.

Hi, Irma! I think the perspective looks fine. You can't worry too much about the cars; they'll probably be there all day long. Bonus for the nice cloud formations and the diagonal lines of the buildings. Regards.....DT

Hey Irma,

first of all, I am everything but a specialist for architecture, so take what I say with a grain of salt (or two...)

I think you did very well on the light, it looks like you filled in a bit on the side of the building, but not too much.
the stark shadow in the front right is a bit distracting , but I guess, there is not much you could do about it.
To me, the perspective correction looks ok, but I would refine the front corner of the house. when you correct perspective, do you use guides?
the part on top of the right column looks as if it could need some more straightening. It is hard to do it on the picture
you already worked on, but if you start from scratch using guides it is easy.



my final still does not look quite right, as I was using warp to transform. I think when you start with a fresh picture you should not need to warp it
but just correct straight lines. Now we have a rounded roof on the left side of the front building....



To be honest, if you had not said it, I would not have seen the old and new in this picture.
the older houses in the back are two far away to be relevant in the picture. I think for the right impression
you need them closer together, especially if you are using a wide lense.

Thanks so much for your review, I see what you mean about the building. You know I was really surprised to see this kind of building in the old part of Luebeck. I will go to Hamburg tomorrow I will try to find something else about this theme. I have always the option to work two images to illustrate the contrast but I am looking for something that could be seen in the same image.
