the 3:4 crop works, but I must admit now I look at it again I quite like the horizontal format too! Thanks for everyone's input. Much appreciated Richard

How are these rough copies? I get the part about the background, but not so sure about the horizontal cropping. It's really a vertical composition to my eye.
