Open source camera
#1

I love keeping a tab on what researchers are coming up with because often times the bleeding edge becomes the common technology of tomorrow. Anyway, these guys are experimenting with an open source camera platform, or the Frankencamera as they affectionately call it. The open source bit allows users to alter or tweak how the camera captures and processes the image - for example allowing greater dynamic range or HDR processing in-camera (too late - some cameras are already touting this feature). It's somewhat akin to the CHDK or Canon Hack Development Kit, only on a much larger scale and not reverse engineering someone else's technology.

Anyway, it's an interesting read.
