Heheh, mine just comes down to pure luck. Heheh, but seriously, I usually follow basic composition rules, make sure that there's a definite subject or feature to focus on in the frame, otherwise an awesome landscape can easily be made boring.
Rule of thirds and keeping horizon straight also helps. Lighting plays a great deal too... although I'm not an expert on that.
