My name Graham, based in Cornwall UK. I have dabbled in photography
For years but would now like to spend a bit more time & learn more. My daughter Josie is very keen on fashion & portrait photography & we are now in the process of organising a lighting studio for her, myself & my wife to use. So any advice on setting up studios would be very much appreciated. Thanks

I'm back to pick your brains, I have been looking at editing software,ie Photoshop elements 11 & Lightroom 5. I'm thinking LR would be good for editing raw photos, but do I need PE as well. Gets confusing the more you read about it, would be grateful for any comments. Thanks Graham

Hi again Graham,

It seems to me that Lightroom is an add-on to Photoshop and is not something you necessarily need. I would start with the simpler stuff Elements 11, say, because it should do everything you need at least initially. You should find good advice in books by Scott Kelby - training books, videos etc.

Well, time to go shopping for some toys then! I have a two year old laptop and it's still really good, it can do video rendering, photo processing, gaming, a ton of other stuff, I love it. If you're looking into buying a laptop I definitely recommend the Dell XPS series.

Baloney.
LR is WAY simpler than ANY PhotoShop. Including Elements.

I do 90+% of my edits in LightRoom.
Color temp, exposure, contrast, saturation, crop/straighten........
It does batch edits very easily.
And has a cataloging function.
PhotoShop is only necessary for the heavy duty stuff.
And a lot of people (including some pros) use PhotoShop Elements instead of PS.
