Hey blick, welcome to the forum!
Believe it or not, I am in the exact same position as you are: a D3100 with a kit lens, 55-300 and I recently bought a 35 mm lens. Due to the lack of space in the luggage, I only brought the 35mm and the 55-300 with me, and I don't really miss the kit lens - the glass on the 35mm is so much better.

You might want the zoom for the long lens if you are travelling. Take the 35mm along in your case. That's what I would do.
Nikon D3100 with Tokina 28-70mm f3.5, (I like to use a Vivitar .43x aux on the 28-70mm Tokina), Nikkor 10.5 mm fisheye, Quanteray 70-300mm f4.5, ProOptic 500 mm f6.3 mirror lens.
