Great shot Steve! You did well to have detail and a background that wasn't blown out. What is this little fellow? A falcon of sorts? I'm not familiar with birds up that way but he looks very impressive and curious.

Mate what a cool looking bird! His eye is amazing, it's really captivating - have you tried a crop of just his head? Great focus though, I agree its got good DOF.

Its a Kestrel and no, to be honest I hadn't even thought about cropping just the head. I'll give it a go and see what it looks like.

Great photo! I think it looks good the way it is. I just love how the kestrel is posed and pirched on that branch, with its menacing eyes looking like its just spotted its prey.
