What's there to see in Melbourne?
I arrived last night and have spent most of the day sleeping Smile horhorhor
Hope to get out and take some photos, I'll have to figure out the public transport system first though - but apparently I already live in "Zone 1"... yay! photos!

Should I fear for my gear while on public transport? horhorhor

Adam if you have time get out to the Dandenongs. It is a national park about an hour outside of Melbourne. Absolutely amazing temperate rainforest with loads of unusual birds and wildlife. I was out there in 2004 and it was amazing. Also take a walk down the river away from the south bank there are lots of birds and sights to see there.

Hey adam, it should be fun! The public transport is very good - just watch out for the kangaroos on the streets. Ho ho ho Big Grin

We should hook up - send me your travel dates and maybe I can organise a photo expedition or something...

In the city, there are things such as Federation Square, National Gallery of Victoria, Crown Casino (awesome to shoot at night), Southbank (art precinct), Royal Botanic Gardens and Queen Victoria Market (fresh food and crafts). There's a new development near the water called The Docklands or New Quay, which is good for funky and chic restaurants. Slightly further out of the city (but still close), there's St. Kilda where there's usually a market on the esplanade by the beach on weekends.

If you're interested in day trips outside the city, you can see the Twelve Apostles, Grampians mountain ranges, Dandenong Ranges (good for crafts, bush walking, afternoon tea), Healesville Sanctuary (wildlife), Werribbee Zoo (african wildlife, highly recommended), Melbourne Zoo (err, wildlife?) and lots of other places...

Anyway, it should be a great experience... do send me your trip details...
