My 2-1/2 year old on her first day of pre-school.
The bg is the back of a chair. One flash camera right, set a bit too hot and undiffused (if I'd had time I would have gotten the flash up on a stand and used a shoot-through umbrella.) Second flash up on a shelf behind her, angled down, as an accent light. Vignette courtesy of PS.
50mm lens, f/2.8 (or thereabouts), 1/60s.

It's very nice. I like the multi flash effect a lot. You are right that the front one is slightly too hot, but plenty of PhotoShop tricks for reducing that. Excellent portrait.

Funny how we're so conditioned NOT to cut the tops of heads off, yet it can be so effective!

That is a great shot Mitch!
One question though, how come her backpack looks like its rising on her right shoulder? Is it being forced up from sitting?
As usual though.... another great shot!

Thanks folks.
Jerry - good catch. Actually she was standing (it's truly the
back of the chair
) but I'm pretty sure there was nothing in the pack, so it was probably too light and definitely too big to fit properly. With books and whatnot it should lay better, especially as she grows into it.
