Yesterday, I ventured into raw photography for the first time. I could see the photos in the camera LCD and modify them a little. I downloaded the latest version of Nikon View NX. But I couldn't do anything to take advantage of the greater lattitudes I was supposed ot have to edit the photos. I couldn't pull more out of the shadows or select my color balance because the software had no capabilit. Once i moved the photo to my editing software, they had to be converted to tiff or jpg anyway. How can you make use of raw photos? What software do I need? Can I get useful software without spending a fortune.
