I see what you are trying to accomplish here and I think it doesn't look all that bad. I would like to see it without the shadow too.

I find this a magical photo. I think you make too light of it.

Your retouch has a great eery feel to it. The sun through the mist really works - looks the the aftermath of a battle.

Very nice work! I like the way the tree of the original seems to turn into a part of the building, making it look like a ruin. Haunted, no doubt, by the ghosts of mighty warriors.
