Hi Dewy, and welcome to Shuttertalk!

I do agree that while the image quality isn't the absolute best on the S5000, it does produce pleasing images (just don't look too closely Smile). I think that it does apply too much compression, and there's no way to change that.

However, I purchased because of the other features (10x zoom, manual controls, etc.), and knowing full well of the limitations... so I'm a happy camper Smile
adam Wrote:1. What camera do you currently have, and why did you choose to purchase it?
I currently have a Canon 300D. I chose to purchase it because I needed a new camera, it was the cheapest DSLR and after I had tried out my friend's one, I wanted it. Smile

2. What camera would you like to have, and why?
Canon 1Ds, Canon 1D MarkII... why? It's not that I've used them before, or that I really need them. I probably won't even be able to use one properly, the reason I wrote those, really, is because the specifications are quite good compared to many of the other DSLRs. I wouldn't mind having one, but it would be a waste if I did have one, using it as a point and shoot camera.

or maybe a pinhole camera.

Huaha yes .. i also have EOS 300D ... i also have a backup canon AV-1 (good ol brick)...
Me and my bro got this cam cause it was great value... being ametuer photographers ... we decided we didnt need the extra specs of the 10D .... although they would have been nice ^^ ...

i would like a Rolei Medium format with a digital back ...
it has quality comparable to a 1Ds but since it is in the square format .. i woul dhtne have the freedom to crop the image to get the framing that i want .... ^_-
OoPpPz.. accidentally posted twice...
so ill shorten this second copy ^^

Lol to adamm .. you must love your pinhole cameras ...
especially that polaroid pinhole camera kit ..

Medium format rocks, in my opinion! My wedding photographer used a Fuji GA645 (autofocus "point and shoot type" medium format) and the photos produced just blew me away!
Yeah .. you get some really nice photos .. except .. .they r $_$

too much weight loss for my pockey!
dewy, there's no need to swear so much Smile
What's wrong with the quality of anything over 1mp, do you have some examples to show?
1. What camera do you currently have, and why did you choose to purchase it?
I currently use a Canon 300D. technically i don't "have" it, since my dad bought it, but it seems that i'm the only user of the camera Big Grin . I guess i semi own it, since i bought the 512Mb CF card and the 50mm f/1.8 lens =P lol.

2. What camera would you like to have, and why?
Canon 1D ... i guess its Canon's top of the range camera, and with those specs and custom settings (not that i wud know how to use half of those settings), it just makes me drool. Big Grin =P~~~~
Welcome to ShutterTalk Lak, good to seen another ShutterTalker
Wow, these forums are really becoming 300D heavy Smile Mr Gadget, adam, peter, lak, soon we'll be called 300D-talk... hehehe. Oh plus Rufus's 10D too Smile
Lol, good point there, what camera do you have test?
Adam, Long(lak), and me shoot together ..

lol peter =P You have a few other camera's don't you? Like the lomo one, the ancient SLR one, and then u got the Sony cybershot.... who knows wat other camera's u got! Oh and that antique camera you got! I think that might be worth something hey. =P
uhauha ... that is an SLR from like 1960 ...
its literally a brick ...
its even named "The Brick" ...
i killed a grasshopper in my room wid it .. ~_~
we also got a EOS 300 somehwere ..
and a minolta SLR ..

and an old Minolta 110 .. .like one of those earlier sub mini SLRs bak in the old day ..
my brother bought some cheapo old cams just for t he fun of it ..
never use them tho ..
have a Holga square format .. also used for lomo ..
looks like a toy tho ..
arghh ..accidentally double posed ... sorri peeps ..
"Bui, your phone is a brick - go build a house with it"
I have an Olympus 750UZ (4 Mp, 10x zoom) and a Ricoh Caplio RX (3 Mp, superfast AF). They complement each other well. The Ricoh fits in the pocket, takes nice pictures with no need for half-pressing and can autofocus almost anytime. The Olympus has 10x zoom, slightly better image quality and can mount an external flash, but is clumsy and the AF is slow when it works at all.

I think I'd like the second or third generation of the Ricoh Caplio GX, something like the GX with slightly better picture quality, higher movie resolution and slightly thinner, maybe with 5x zoom as long as the brightness of the lens is still good. Oh yes, it should have swiveling LCD too, and AA batteries. Like, Canon A80 but faster, or Pentax 750 but smaller, somewhat faster and with AA batteries.
Wow, sounds like you've used digital for quite some time already, Ingemar... should post some pics up! Big Grin
I'll bite:

My first camera was an olympus C740. Well my FIRST camera was a Vivitar manual SLR, but that's a different story. Then came the N65 and then the C740 and then the D70 and next, the... Well I'm still in the process of posting about my dream camera, go take a look in that topic when you're done reading this one...

I guess I can say that I'd stick with Nikon just because I seem to like their interface more. I've tried a bunch of different film rebels, the D60, 10D, D-reb, the 1Ds, and I've also tried a D2H and I've read into the kodak, fuji, sigma, olympus... all those bodies. Every one of them has something I like, (canon imaging processor on the 1Ds is FAST, woohoo!) but for the most part I really can't say that one rules over all others because there are currently just so many crippling factors that really need to be addressed. But that's for the rant I'm working on!

Kind of off topic but what camera did you use to take the picture you have linked in your signature?
That shot was taken with my D70, JPG Large I believe. I find that particular panorama very funny because that's what happens when you come acrossa breathtaking scene and all you have is a telephoto lens... Wink

D70 and loving it.
Currently a Sony 828 that I share with my fiancee, but in a few weeks I will be the proud new owner of a D70. Smile

Nice one!

We expect some images soon-ish please!

Ah. Of course. Do I upload them to my gallery section on this site, or offsite?
Just a matter of choice really.

I upload some to the actual page, like this:

Some go on the gallery pages, and some are on Pbase.com
