KAK, I forgot to mention that if you haven't already seen it, you should check out the Assignments forum. We're currently working on Macros; the previous assignment of Toys is also still popular.

matthew Wrote:Good to see you here, too. It really is the friendliest forum on the net...I'll try my best not to change that.
Thanks for the welcome.
Looks like a rather diverse group here, globally speaking. Cool.
Maybe there will be some activity when I'm online at 5am CST.
Just noticed that images above a certain width get windowed w/ scrolling.
So, I should upload smaller images in most cases, right?
640px width?

Hi and double welcome; yes, that'sa bout right Keith.
Mar 6, 2006, 06:14
Welcome Keith... 640 is about right.
p.s. I plan to take out the code for scrolling sometimes soon... I think a few people have already said that it's a tad annoying.

Hey everyone!
I'm just browsing the net... I am a children's portrait photographer and I'm not sure if I am in the right place or not. Am I?

Hi GGC:
This is a very friendly and supportive forum with a diverse group - both internationally and style-wise. There are a fair number of people here that are very into children's portraits and also many others that have other varying interests at all levels of skill and enthusiasm.
Read some of the forums - post some work. Welcome to Shuttertalk.
BTW: I see you are from Atlanta - lovely day today - I am currently there on business.

Hey retouch, nice to meet you. That walking cane mod sounds very interesting! I'd definitely like to see a couple of shots of that, if you don't mind...
Enjoy your stay!

Hey Gang - I'm Phil from Mpls Mn USA.
I guess I'm #2 from North America dead center under Canada by 300 miles.
I started out in mid 60's about 9 yrs old when handed a 35mm camera w/o any metering. Graduated to the Contax system in mid 70's to do travel and weddings - and finally in the last few years to digital - with a mid range Canon G5 - and recently acquired the Canon digital video - Optura 60. I'm almost convinced that the video camera is all one needs - if it had manual photo settings.
They both just returned from a 7 month tour to Europe 2 weeks ago - Then forced to pick up a 300gb Seagate hard drive to help out the Apple Powerbook with the project.
Recent research has me waiting for the new Canon D30 - it should be out shortly - and local shops already have presold waiting lists - so I may have to wait for the next load. This should be a major upgrade to the system.
When I saw the Photo Lighting DIY link in Gizmodo - I new I was at the right spot.
I to made use of these lights - and found a model that had 2 levels of power settings and a defused glass cover. I suspect they were for Pro-painters. A few bucks more - but well made. I'll gather some shots of them later.
What I lack is the blue bulbs - and will update soon.
The entire article was a hit - and well done.
Future tours will more than likey be New Zealand - and Australia.
Sometimes You have to save the best for later. Oh Yeah - Canada....
Have Fun

Welcome 399 and Phil.
Phil- when you get the D30 make sure you start posting some shots from that. I'm sure it will create a lot of interest.

Hi I'm Katheleen,
I'm very old. Born in Belfast, but migrated to the US when I was a kid (yikes 1970's!). I have absolutely no talent, but am determined to change that. I'm a stay-at-home mom and am fighting the stigma that goes along with that label every inch of the way. I moved to Vermont from NYC a few years ago, and am in constant awe of the beauty of this state...now to only capture it...

Hello all-
My Name is Dan (obviously), I grew up in California but am now living in Brooklyn studying Entertainment Technology and Freelancing (theatre) around the city.
Photography wise: I started with 35mm point and shoot, then graduated to a Nikon Coolpix 4300 like 3 years ago. Last semester I decided to take a photography class at school. I shot/developed/printed B&W for a semester (completely fell in love with dark room processing), and liked having manual control of pictures but missed the instant gratification of digital. So I recently purchased a Nikon D50 and am experimenting with it as well as post processing software Aperture and PS. I'm quite amateur and hoping to learn a bit from the forums, but hopefully I will have some to contribute as well.
(BTW found the site by way of Gizmodo link to the DIY lighting article)

Hey Dan, welcome to Shuttertalk! Good to see another fellow D50 user.
I think it's great that you have experienced both the "old" school and the new as well.
Looking foward to seeing your photos and comments!
